10/4/2023 0 Comments Mr. bean nativity sceneIt can be interpreted, like the rest of his actions, as part of his innocence. Yet it could also mean that he lacks many close people in his life and doing something like this is his way of coping, especially when considering that his girlfriend is the only person we really see with him during the special. However, I find it to be a little sad as well. It’s a funny gag because it differs from our expectations. When he finally gets home, Bean takes Christmas cards and appears to be preparing to mail them, only to step outside and place them in his own mail slot, effectively delivering his own Christmas cards to himself. Bean’s character more than viewers might expect. I’ve always found that this special helps flesh out Mr. One could indicate that it probably would have been better to try and find the owners of the stolen goods first and then give them up if no one could be found. However, it is the fact that Bean does this without any other reason which shows that, even if somewhat misguided, he truly wants to help. He finds a boy that has been pick-pocketing and forces him to give the money and other valuables to the local charity. Bean’s childlike wonder does not extend solely to toys and playtime, but to the importance of doing good deeds. It’s a sense of fun that many people seem to lose when they reach adulthood. As I said before, he does not do this for any other reason other than that it’s fun. He brings plenty of other toys to fight with the various Biblical figures, including a particularly awesome moment in which a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Dalek fight it out as an angel arrives via helicopter to rescue the baby Jesus. And it’s hilarious. There’s an entire scene where we see Bean playing with the Nativity at a local shop. It’s what makes up those 25 minutes that allows for plenty of good laughs to be had. Bean goes Christmas shopping and then celebrates Christmas at home with his girlfriend. The premise of the special works because of how simple it is. Naturally, a Christmas special seemed to be a good opportunity for seeing what shenanigans Bean could get into. The messes he gets into are not to spite others or to prove himself better, like his Blackadder counterpart, but simply because he is like a child. What makes the character work so well is his naivety, his overall innocence. Bean has made international audiences laugh for 25 years. While I consider myself more of a fan of Blackadder, it’s not surprising how his role as Mr. Over the years, Rowan Atkinson has proven himself to be a comedic genius.
